Herpes is a chronic disease. It is an infectious disease caused by the herpes simplex virus. The virus affects the skin of the external genitalia, the region of the anus, and other parts of the body. Herpes can cause itchy sores or wounds.

The prevalence of HSV-1 among persons aged 14–49 was 47.8% .
Age-adjusted prevalence was higher among females (50.9%) than males (45.2%).
Age-adjusted prevalence was highest among Mexican-American persons (71.7%) and lowest among non-Hispanic white persons (36.9%).
Herpes genitalis :
Herpes genitalis is a recurrent, life long viral infection that cause hepatic lesions (blister) on the external genitalia and occasionally the vagina and cervix.
It is an STD but may also be transmitted asexually from wet surface or by self transmission for example,
touching a cold sore(infection of herpes simplex virus around the border of lips) then touching the genital area.
The skin that is exposed to this disease can also affect the uterus of women and the urinary tract of men.
Herpes simplex virus can also transmitted to baby from her mothers.
So, Pregnant women with herpes simplex virus should consult a doctor.
Types of Herpes :
There are two types of herpes.
Herpes Type-I (HSV I):
In it the wound becomes around the mouth and lips.
Herpes type-1 is transmitted through oral secretions or lesions on the skin. It can spread through toothbrushes, food utensils, etc.
Herpes Type-2 (HSV II):
It can be wound around the genital or rectum of an infected person.
Causes of herpes :
Herpes is caused by a viral infection of herpes simplex virus.
Infection occurs for the following reasons:
By having genital contact with an infected person.
By having oral sex with a person suffering from mouth ulcers.
if you are sharing a lip balm of a patient, you will get it.
By kissing with infected person.
Having sex without condoms.
Having sex with multiple people.
Other sexually transmitted infections.
By decreasing the immunity.
Women are more likely to have herpes.
Sign and symptoms of herpes :
Wounds or sore :
The infection can cause wounds/sore to the person’s face or genital area, which may last for days or weeks. These can be on the outer skin of the penis or the inner part of the vagina, the anus, the thigh. In addition to this, there may be wounds on the lips, face and even inside the mouth. These may include pus or blisters. It may take at least two weeks for them to recover.
Wounds can usually cause muscle aches and headaches as well as fever. These are common symptoms of both types of herpes.
Itching and irritation:
Sometimes the patient may experience itching or irritation.
Discomfort in the eyes:
Sometimes the infection is also caused by the herpes simplex virus in the eyes. This includes making you look blurry, watering your eyes, pain or irritation.
